USES –
- It is an analgesic used to treat mild to moderate pain.
- Also indicated in chronic pain.
- Mostly used in injected form.
- Injected IV 100mg tramadol is equal to 10 mg IM morphine.
Advantage –
Quick action if given intravenous.
Tramadol causes less respiratory depression, sedation, constipation, urinary retention than morphine.

The drug is metabolized in liver and half-life is 5 hours , duration of action is 6 hours . Excretion is through urine and Bioavailability is 75% by mouth and 100% IM
Dose-
50-100 mg oral, intramuscular or slow intravenous infusion.
Children- 1-2 mg per kg 4-6 hourly.
